WWF, World Wildlife Fund, World Wide Fund for Nature

Officially, this conservation organization is now called WWF.  However the names World Wildlife Fund (for the U.S. and Canada) and World Wide Fund for Nature (outside the U.S. and Canada) are still used by many publications.

WWF is a global organization acting through a network of local offices. See panda.org for more information.

The resulting confusion caused by a name change in 1986 from World Wildlife Fund to World Wide Fund for Nature, together with its translation into more than 15 languages, led the WWF Network in 2001 to agree on using the original acronym as its one, global name—the acronym that it had always been known by since its inception in 1961: WWF.
