Arabian Gulf

The internationally accepted name is Persian Gulf, although Arab countries call the body of water the Arabian Gulf.

Where scale permits, National Geographic maps include a map note about the Arabian Gulf. (Note that this treatment supersedes that found in the eighth edition of the world atlas.)

If Arabian Gulf is used in text, it should be explained. Do not capitalize states in Persian Gulf states.
